This study aims to analyze family communication patterns in addressing online game addiction among children in Gampong Peunaga Baro, Meureubo District, West Aceh Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design to gain an in-depth understanding of the communication dynamics within families. The subjects of this study are families with children who engage in online gaming, with informants consisting of parents and village officials. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that family communication patterns tend to be simple, less intensive, and unstructured. Communication between parents and children is generally limited to daily activities, thus it has not functioned optimally as a means of regulating children’s behavior. In addition, most families do not have specific rules regarding the use of online games, and parental supervision tends to be weak and inconsistent. This condition allows children to use digital devices freely without clear limitations. Children’s behavior in playing online games shows a tendency to be difficult to control, even after receiving warnings from parents. Furthermore, children tend to be unaware of the negative impacts of their gaming activities. On the other hand, environmental factors, such as peer influence, also play a significant role in shaping children’s gaming habits. Nevertheless, children are still engaged in other activities such as studying, playing outdoors, and participating in religious practices. This study concludes that online game addiction among children is not only influenced by technological factors but also by weak family communication patterns. Therefore, strengthening family communication that is more open, intensive, and educative is essential to address this issue.
